Knit and Bead your own dogs

The other day at the book store I ran across a book called " Best in Show: Knit your own dog " I thought it was the cutest book ever. After coming home I realized I'd read an article about Joanna Osborne and Sally Muir the authors of this book in the Feb/Jan issue of Selvedge magazine. If you pick up a copy you can check out the instructions they have for knitting an Afghan Hound.

Here are instructions to knit you own Jack Russell shown in the picture above.

The Lone Beader's Etsy shop provides you with cool dog designs. I happen to love the design above of a Westie. Please check her shop for other great designs.

Hello Louise,

I found your site and fell in love. Do you have any books authored? Where may I purchase? I cannot begin to explain the inspiration you have given me. The picture by your blog name fasinates me. I want to learn the pattern. I know how to peyote stitch. Incredible! I must have your patterns, or at least the ones you are willing to share, anyway. Thank you for your time.

I just bought this book and I'm fairly new to knitting. I'm working on the Dachshund and need help deciphering the pattern. I'm just not sure what ** means. According to the abbreviation definitions in the back of the book, I think it means to repeat. Row 4 instructs you to Purl** and if I purl two rows then it leaves a ridge. Could this mean to pace a stitch holder or marker? Please help :)
